HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
First day of the new year. A time for auld lang syne, a time for reflection, and a time to make new commitments.
We’ll go first, with our commitments to you for 2010:
1. We shall refer to the year as “twenty ten,” and not “two thousand ten.” “Twenty ten” sounds way cooler.
2. The Playground Barbell Club. It’s happening. Starting Tuesday night. More details on this tomorrow.
3. The Playground is a year old. It coincides with a new decade. Kismit. It’s time to redefine.
4. You will be pushed this year, and you will be pushed hard. The Coaches have spent a lot of time talking about where we are as a group, and we have come to a consensus that the progress for our athletes is not where it should be. We fault ourselves for this, and we will fix it in the coming days / weeks / months. More on this after the itemized list.
5. Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals. We need to teach them, you need to master them. We’re going to offer at least two sessions a month where we focus on a fundamental movement for one hour before the Saturday workout. Limit of five people to a session, with an eye on movement mastery.
6. Warmups: they’re back in force. You need to work on that at which you’re bad, and we’ll be designing your warmups with this in mind. You can thank us later.
7. Leaving weights out: the penalty is now one burpee per pound, effective immediately.
8. Midgets. They’re awesome.
And, briefly, back to number four – it’s a beef we’ve had as Coaches for a while. What it comes down to is this: if you’re going to do it, do it right. As a community, we are too concerned with the clock and with competing with the others on the board. Focusing on the clock is inversely related to the pursuit of movement mastery. To correct this and effective immediately, The Coaches will be taking reps away if we see a movement performed incorrectly. Our two biggest pet peeves (although this is by no means the definitive list) is getting to or past parallel on anything involving squatting and failing to get the head through the window on anything overhead. Be aware of what you do, or you will do it again.
Finally – Resolutions. Have a set and put yours in the comments – we’ll help you reach them.
Remember kids, we hurt you because we love you, and we want you to realize the things of which you are capable. You just need to believe, and the rest will follow on easily.

2010 Resolutions: to get my body in healthier shape … more muscle, less fat. To accomplish that need to eat healthier on the weekends, try to fit in exercise while on “Mercy”, and get back to crossfit come the end of February when I go to an alternating episode schedule. Oh, I also want to read more but that’s one I’m not sure the playground can help me with.

My resolution for this year, be a better person all around, especially to those I love.
This year has taught me to appreciate what I have, including my caboose. That doesn’t mean it can’t be leaner and tighter. This year I resolve to be stronger, do unassisted pullups, and build on my accomplishments w/ out focusing on idle nonsense. Focus on the big picture, both at the playground and personally. Happy New Year to all!

my resolution – To improve on my fitness including trying to follow the Zone diet – as much as possible… After the weekend of celebration.
I would also like to improve my Crossfit performance including
- Completing Wods as perscribed
- Stringing double unders
- Getting the kipping to work for me
- Being able to do HandStand Push-ups efficiently.
It would be fun to complete in another Crossfit competion this year… not ready for the regionals though… Aiming for next year.
