    Well-deserved rest day.

If you did the last triple, you’ve earned this rest day.  This was one hell of a triple.

And now, some words of wisdom for those of you who are workout-a-holics.  We’re going to talk about recovery.

Recovery is as important as the workouts themselves.  If you want to progress in your fitness, you need to respect the rest day, and actually give your body a chance to rest, to recover, and to recharge.  A lot of our customers who are fitness machines ask us what they can do on their rest day just to keep in shape, just to stay loose.  Here’s the answer:

Sleep, hydrate, stretch, and rest… these are the keys to recovery.

If you’re hitting these workouts the way that we discussed in yesterday’s post on intensity, you’ll be looking forward to your rest day the way a kid looks forward to the annual resurrection of the Easter Bunny.  You should be downright thankful for the rest day.  If you’ve still got some pep in your step after three days of giving it hell, either you’re a candidate for CrossFit immortality (do a little research on CrossFit Legends like Annie Sakamoto, Nicole Carroll, James “OPT” Fitzgerald, or Chris “Speal” Spealler, and you’ll get the idea), or you’re not pushing yourself hard enough in the workouts.

If you’re hitting it as hard as you can, enjoy your rest day.  Take a long hot shower, do some stretching (although preferably not in a giant petri dish), get super hydrated, and get some sleep.  Letting your body have enough rest to adequately recover will let you hit the next triplet like the fist of an angry god, and continue to see substantial gains.

As always, if you missed a workout in the last triplet, we’ll make sure we get you current today.

    CrossFit?? What exactly is that??
That was my initial response when Cindy mentioned that she was doing workout sessions out of her garage. My imagination ran wild but my curiosity got me to pack up the kids, yesterday morning, and check it out for myself.
At first glance everything in the “gym” looks manageable but by pulling all the equipment together creates an incredible workout that your body will thank you for afterward.
To my surprise, my first workout, was far more than I expected. It was tough. My body had many muscles that had been lying dormant for way too long. I made it through the warm up, which by the way feels like a workout in itself, and did a couple of exercises but cut my workout short since I hadn’t worked out in 1-2years. I promised Cindy that I would be back, today, so that I could get past that hurdle. I knew I could do it and just needed to push myself. I wanted to break through that wall and not allow fear or doubt to enter my mind. Today I accomplished that. I made it through the warm up and did some exercises and it felt great!
The last two days have proven to me that my body will be pushed and it will hurt but this will get me where I want to be fitness wise. My goal is to have a strong and healthy body for myself and for my family.
For anyone who is reading this and needs to change up their workout regimens you really do need to give this a try. This program is designed to get you to push your body and see results, which is empowering.
I have committed myself to CrossFit and am looking forward to the many workouts I will be having with Cindy and Will. I thank them for their dedication and for bringing CrossFit into my life. I am pumped and ready to get my body strong! Yeah!!

This was a great introduction to Crossfit!! A little warm up and run to start and Pam and I jumped into the WOD. The rowing got me breathless and my heart pumping, the push press woke up my muscles and put them to the test. Back and forth for four rounds and I was exhausted!! Tuesday my quads and back were screaming…loved it!!!
