Great job to all who completed the “Swayze.” Based on your performances it look like many of you had a dance careers in previous lives. The guys in particular rocked this WOD.

    Diet Challenge Update:

    Starts on: Oct 19th
Ends on: Nov 20th (will have a party to celebrate that evening)

We decided to go with a quick challenge because we feel everyone can rein it in for 4 weeks. We also believe that most of you are already watching what you eat, but need to pay more attention to the quantity and quality of foods you eat.

    Challenge requirements:

1.) All participants must come to the Playground 3 times a week.

2.) Keep a daily log of diet – using the website is the best way for us to keep track of progress.

    3.) Get measured weekly

4.) Follow diet plan suggestions provided by trainers

We will hold a kickoff meeting prior to the 19th, to go over the rules again and to get measurements. If anyone feels uncomfortable meeting as a group, we can go over this information at your session. The plan is to have all information for each contestant by Oct 16th. Your personal information will not be posted on the site. Stay tuned for more information regarding kickoff date and prizes that the winner take home.

    WOD:

    Deadlift 3-3-3-3-3 reps

And if you’re a glutton for punishment, run 4 x 800 m, resting between rounds for as long as it took you to run the previous 800.

We’re still working on the video from the “Swayze” WOD.

No rhymes or rants tonight, but we’ll come up with a topic-du-jour tomorrow.  Until then, sleep well, and dream of large women.

This WOD is a tribute to legendary actor, dancer, and People Magazine’s 1991 Sexiest Man Alive: Patrick Swayze.  For those of us who came of age in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the man was nothing short of an icon.  From his role as Jed Eckert in Red Dawn to the legendary Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing, Swayze was the man.  His later roles and Dalton in Road House and Bhodi in Point Break pretty gave him enough dude points that we can overlook his role in whatever the hell Ghost was all about.

Swayze was a legend.  R.I.P., Patrick.  You will be missed.

    And….

GYM PAINTING AND PLYO BOX BUILDOUT DAY – A DRAMA IN TWO PARTS

OK, it’s an official signup. Part One – most of you are aware of. We need to finish painting the gym, and probably touch up some of the areas that have taken a beating from wallballs and HSPU. October 10th is the day. Sign up if you’re in. Easy enough.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL…. ( <– that works best in a Billy Mays voice)

A lot of people have said they want to have some plyo boxes for their homes, so that they can have box jumps available as an option on days when they can’t make it to The Playground.

If you buy a plyo box online, you’re looking at 100 bucks if you’re looking at a nickel. We’ve got good news for you – We can beat the crap out of that price. So we’re offering you a two-fer. IF you come and help us with the painting, we will help you by building you a plyo box. We’ve got the saws, the drills, the screws, the wood glue, the know-how, and the dashing good looks to pull it off.

If you’re in for a plyo box (or plyo boxes, if you so desire), let us know (drop an email to info at crossfitplayground dot com, that way Will and Cindy both get it). You’ll need to get us 25 bucks per box you want built. That price will cover a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood from Home Depot plus a few thousand Turkish Lira for gas, time and effort. Let us know how many boxes you want, and what sizes you want (we’ve got solid templates for the 12, 16, 20, and 24 inch variety, all of which can be made from a single sheet of plywood. If you want bigger, let us know, we’ll figure out the price). Get us the cash by October 8th at the latest – we’re going to Home Depot on the 9th, and that will be that.

One additional note – 3/4 inch plywood is about 50 pounds a sheet, so we can do about 20 sheets in the pickup before the weight and height start becoming an issue. If the demand is overwhelming, we can make more than one trip, but get your order in sooner rather than later.

Sign up below, and bonus points for amusing us with your bio.

The event have ended - no more registrations are allowed.

All are welcome to join. We will pick one person to “showcase” on the website to track progress. All participants are required to keep a food journal, and must be at the gym three times a week.

We will provide suggestions regarding diet, food choices and recipes.

    Any takers.?!?

    Will, Cindy, and Coach Burgener

    Will, Cindy, and Coach Burgener

First and foremost, today marks the seven year anniversary since Will and Cindy got married, so in an unabashed bit of self-acknowledgement, happy anniversary to us!

    WOD:

    10 Rounds:

    1 Squat Clean @ 90% of your 1RM

    5 Burpees

    5 Pullups

    Rest 1 minute

    Rants and Notes:

We just got back from a truly outstanding weekend spent with Coach Mike Burgener, EvaClaire Synkowski, Keith Wittenstein, three-time Olympian Fred Lowe, and many other amazing Coaches and athletes (including a drop-in visit from Brian MacKenzie of CrossFit Endurance). It was an amazing learning experience for us, and we’ve got lots of new goodies in store for the Playground Crew.

One of these things is not like the others.... EC, Fred Lowe, Cindy

One of these things is not like the others.... EC, Fred Lowe, Cindy

Before any of you go through today’s WOD, you will be subject to a crash course on how to properly clean and jerk. We will adjust your load according to how you take to the crash course.

We’re still processing everything we went through, but we’ve already decided that we will be adapting The Burgener Warmup as a warmup component for all athletes, every day. The full progression takes very little time, encourages the grooving of several key elements of properly performing the Olympic lifts, and focuses on some areas where we all can improve.

We are genuinely excited to share what we learned over the weekend with our athletes. Bring your lifting shoes this week, and get ready to get deluged and drilled with Olympic Lifting this week while it’s still fresh in our minds.

    YAY BURPEES!

    This week’s Schedule:

    9/21 – 9AM and 5:30PM
    9/22 – All sessions
    9/23 – All sessions
    9/24 – 5:30PM
    9/25 – All sessions

Bailey and Will grinding it out.. Way to bring it today!

Bailey and Will grinding it out.. Way to bring it today!

As most of you know, Cindy and Will will be in Boston at the Olympic Weightlifting Certification with Coach Mike Burgener and (rumor has it) a freshly-returned from a summer working on an organic farm in Montana Eva Claire Synkowski.  We’re psyched.

Joyce (and soon-to be-certified Will) Moorcroft graciously offered to man The Playground for us (and for you) tomorrow morning.  And since Joyce is running the show, we left the programming honors up to her (although we think we smell a bit of Will’s fingerprints on this one as well).  She (they) did not disappoint, except for failing to name the WOD (don’t worry, we took care of that for you, Joyce – no offense!) So without further ado:

    WOD:

    “The Baby Momma”

    3 Rounds for Time

    Run 400 M
    40 Sit ups
    100 M walking lunges
    25 Pull ups
    30 Squats
    20 push-ups

And a note from your friendly neighborhood Playground Coaches:

We’re extremely proud of the way everyone brought it this week at The Playground.  There was hard work all around, and even more importantly, a LOT of work on improving technique.

It’s important that we all do some introspection from time to time and try to bring our game to the next level.  You all did that this week, and you did it without any grandiose motivational speeches from us.  As your coaches, there’s nothing that makes us prouder than to watch each and every one of you overcome your own hurdles and improve as athletes.  Weeks like this one are the exact reason we decided to affiliate, and your performances this week motivate us more than we can convey.

Give it hell for the baby momma tomorrow, and keep up the good work.  You can expect some Olympic Lifting next week, to be certain.

    Kisses,

    Will & Cindy
